when the 3494 configuration does not contain a Model HA1.
When Model HA1 Frames are attached, configurations of 3, 4,
6, 8, 10, 12, and 16 frames are allowed in addition to the two service
bays of the Model HA1 Frames. There must be a minimum of 4 library
frames if the DAA feature is installed. The Model B16 VTS can be
installed anywhere within the 16 frames. The IBM TotalStorage Enterprise
Tape Drive Expansion Frames (Models D10, D12 and D14) and the IBM
TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Storage Frames (Model S10) can also be
installed in any location in the 3494. Remote console support using
Distributed Console Access Facility (DCAF) for both library managers is
also available. No additional host software changes are needed to
support the Data Facility Storage Management Subsystem (DFSMS) and Basic
Tape Library Support (BTLS) MVS environments or to TPF, Virtual
Machine/Enterprise Systems Architecture (VM/ESA), and VSE/ESA guests of
VM/ESA.

shipments of a 3494 Model L12 or L22 should specify one of the IBM
TotalStorage Master Console features (#2713, #2714, or #2715).

    (#2710) Remote Support Facility

This feature supplies a cable and connectors for connection to an IBM
supplied modem to enable remote diagnostic support. This feature should
only be specified on the first unit of each set of fourteen units in an
    installation site.

      IBM TotalStorage Master Console Features

The following features #2713, #2714, and #2715 provide connection to
an IBM TotalStorage Master Console (TSMC) to enable enhanced remote
support to improve availability. The TSMC can remotely monitor each
attached device to determine if it is working properly and report any
error alerts for the early detection of problems. Use of the TSMC may
expedite microcode updates, reduce service times, and enhance local
service. One of these features must be ordered on any new 3494 Tape
Library Model L12, or L22 instead of the Remote Support features (#2710,
#2711, or #2712). They are recommended on every installed 3494 Tape
      Library. Any 3494 VTS, 3590 Model A60, or 3592 Model J70 in a 3494
library should also attach to the IBM TotalStorage Master Console. The
same master console for service may be shared between the following
      units:

      • 3494 Model AX0, B10, B18, B20, HA1, L10, L12, L14, or L22
      • VTC in a 3494 Model CX1
      • 3590 Model A60
      • 3592 Model J70

To connect a unit to an IBM TotalStorage Master Console, one of the
following three features must be selected on the unit based on the number
of units attached to that master console facility in the installation.

      (#2713) Master Console For Service

This feature provides the IBM TotalStorage Master Console, an Ethernet
hub and a cable and connectors for connection of one of the above units
to an IBM supplied modem to enable remote enhanced service. This feature
should be specified on the first unit in an installation connected to a
master console facility. The Ethernet hub provides 14 additional
connections for cables supplied with feature #2714 or #2715.

      • Minimum: One of feature #2713, #2714, or #2715 is required on all
        new orders of a 3494 Model L12 or L22.
      • Maximum: One of #2713, #2714, or #2715. A maximum of one of feature
#2714 may be connected to the Master Console For Service feature #2713.
      • Plant or field installable.

      (#2714) Console Expansion

This feature provides an attachment cable for connection of one of the
above units, and an Ethernet hub for expanding the number of units that
can be attached to the Master Console For Service (#2713). Up to 14
additional connections are provided by this feature for connection of
      #2715 or another #2714.

      • Minimum: One of feature #2713, #2714, or #2715 is required on all
        new orders of a 3494 Model L12 or L22.
      • Maximum: One of #2713, #2714, or #2715. A maximum of one other
Console Expansion (#2714) may be connected to the Ethernet hub provided
by this feature #2714. A maximum of two of feature #2714 may be included
in a single master console facility (providing a total maximum of 43 unit
        connections).
      • Plant or field installable.

      (#2715) Console Attachment

This feature provides a cable to attach a unit to the Ethernet hub
provided by the Master Console For Service (#2713) or the Console
Expansion (#2714). A maximum of 40 of feature #2715 may be included in a
      single master console facility.

      • Minimum: One of feature #2713, #2714, or #2715 is required on all
        new orders of a 3494 Model L12 or L22.
      • Maximum: One of #2713, #2714, or #2715.
      • Plant or field installable.
